Scissor Care
Legend Scissors are precision engineered to the highest standard providing you with superior cutting performance, however, in order to maintain these standards they must be cared for and cleaned correctly.
Scissors Care is our recommended care instructions to help you get the most out of your beloved Legend Scissors and to ensure they perform optimally for as long as possible
Step 1. Use of an Legend Alcohol Based cleaning liquid.
Why is it important?
Preventing Disease Spread: Aquariums can harbor various algae, microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses which may not be visible to the naked eye. When you use scissors in the aquarium, there's a risk of transferring these microorganisms from one tank to another or within the same tank. Disinfecting scissors helps minimize the spread of diseases among aquatic organisms.
What are the benefits?
Alcohol based cleaning liquids remove this previously mentioned residue with ease whilst it thoroughly cleans and sanitises plant scissors.
How to apply?
Do Not Use Barbicide to clean and sanitise your scissors as the acid can react with the steel causing corrosion.
IMPORTANT:
Legend Alcohol Based is a flammable liquid and should be stored away from heat sources. Avoid prolonged contact with skin and do not swallow or inhale.

Step 2. Use a Legend Chamois to sharpen your scissors.
How to sharpen scissors (using a chamois).
Having removed any residue in the previous step with the alcohol based cleaning fluid we now use a leather chamois to remove any further impurities and polish / sharpen the cutting edge
How to use a Legend Chamois.
Step 1: Place the chamois flat in the palm of the hand with a firm grip and open the scissor to 9 o'clock for right handed scissors and 3 o'clock for left handed scissors.
How to apply?
Step 2: Carefully and steadily strop/brush the inside and outside of the cutting edge against the chamois surface repeating the action five to six times.
As previously mentioned, this procedure polishes and sharpens the cutting edge
IMPORTANT:
Take extra care not to cut yourself or the chamois.
Step 3. Oil your scissors.
How to oil your shears.
It is very important to oil your scissors either daily or every couple of days. This keeps your scissors tension system clean as it helps remove any build up of impurities such as hair or "gunk" from its interior whilst keeping the it lubricated for smooth hair cutting. See below on how to apply oil.
Step 1: open the scissor completely and apply a small amount of oil between the blades on both sides of the screw area.
Step 4. Tension your scissors.
Your shear or thinner has been carefully adjusted for optimal performance. When you feel that they need adjustment, please follow these simple steps:
How to set the tension correctly - step by step.
STEP 1:
Hold shear/thinner at 30° angle with the tip pointing up & to the left. Continue holding at this angle throughout steps 1-5.
STEP 2:
With one hand, hold the shear by the bottom handle hole. With the other hand, lift the top hole by the finger rest until the mouth of the shear/thinner is opened at about 60°.
STEP 3:
Release the top handle & let it drop down freely. The shear should close & stop by itself right before it is completely closed, leaving a 1/4” gap between the tips. This is the optimal position for correct blade tension.
TOO LOOSE:
Top of shear will close quickly, sharply, “heavily” & all the way closed.
TOO TIGHT:
Top of shear will not move at all when you release it or drops down just a little bit. Adjusting the dial too tightly will damage your shear or thinner.
If it requires adjustment, turn dial (either with fingers or tool depending on model) clockwise for tighter & counter-clockwise for looser. Make adjustment in very small increments, at each turn you will hear a slight “click”.
1. By setting your scissors too loosely this causes the blades to fold the hair meaning they lose all their cutting qualities.
2. When they are sent too loosely it can also lead to the overworking of the hand as it makes us subconsciously apply more pressure to make the scissors cut.
